my mom lives all the way across the country and i have had to visit her every summer for my whole life the custody contract says that untill im 18 i have to visit her. she threatens to take us to court if i dont.i am looking to get a job and i need the summers available for hours because i am only 16.another reason that i want to not have to visit her is because of how i am treated i am always geting yelled at and my stepdad isnt the nicest person in the world.How can you get emancipated from a custody contract that your parents have and not have to visit 1 parent?
Okay, get this straight. You can not be emancipated from one parent. It doesn't work that way.
Secondly the order of visitation is not to force you to visit the non-custodial parent, it is to make sure that IF you want to visit and IF the non-custodial parent wants you there your custodial parent can not keep you from visiting. So, what YOU need to do is call your mother and let her know that you will not be visiting her. Let her threaten to take you to court, she doesn't have a leg to stand on.

My bf brings me to his parent's cottage only to leave me and see his psychologist?
My boyfriend brought me up to his parent's cottage and then left me for about an hour to see his psychologist.
When he to back he said that he ';told'; the psychologist about our relationship and asked for advice where we should head.
Do you think this is NORMAL?
I personally felt he should have left the psychologist for another day when he wasn't with me.My bf brings me to his parent's cottage only to leave me and see his psychologist?

Chances are he had scheduled the appointment beforehand, so it's not like he was being inconsiderate or anything - he's just being responsible. If you want to prove that you're responsible then show them that you can atleast take care of yourself and your belongings...clean your own room, dress nicely, shower daily, make your own lunches etc. Do what they ask you, when they ask you...and volunteer to do chores such as cleaning the dishes or mowing the lawn.
You don't have to keep a dog in the house, but if you have the dog outside it would have to be in a fenced area with plenty of space to run around. Plus a kenel that is water proof, sturdy and warm. and don't forget food and water!

well if you... errr i mean 'your friend'... really wants a puppy, he should NOT keep on asking. that only keeps on annoying 'his' parents. to prove 'he's' responsible, tell 'him' he should do extra chores around the house. clean up after dinner. and basically cater to almost all of 'his' parents every wim. that way, they'll butter up and consider it. and as soon as they consider it, tell 'your friend' to start acting as if 'he' already has the puppy. 'he' can tell 'his' parents what 'he' plans on naming it. 'he' can have a little bed set up in 'his' room for the puppy. 'he' can tell his parents all that 'he' plans to do with the puppy. and just stick with that for a little hile. eventually, 'his' parents will realize how good 'he's' been and how responsible 'he's' been and how much 'he' really wants a puppy. make sure 'your friend' has the puppy in the house and only out in the yard when 'he' is supervising it. because norwich terriers are like all other terriers. they were bred to hunt and kill small vermin and chase them due to their VERY high prey drive. prey drive is when a dog or another animal chases smaller critters/vermin because they either think its a yummy treat or their instincts are telling them to. so if the puppy is outside by itself and it sees a squirrel or a bird, the puppy will chase it. and if the vermin goes over the fence, forget about it. you wont see the norwich anymore because they will either scale the fence (if small enough) or will dig their way out (if possible) or get stuck in the fence or even use something to climb up on to get to the other side of the fence. so when nobody's outside, tell 'your friend' to keep his puppy inside and to only allow him out when there are at least 2 people out there. oh, tell 'your friend' i said good luck!

I don't care. For after school activities like sports or whatever, sure. If they want to participate, they should be clean and law abiding. Not too different from regular rules like how they shouldn't ditch class or otherwise get in trouble.

As a retired teacher and as a former high school principal I feel that drug testing is a good idea.
First and foremost, taking drugs is an unhealthy and dangerous situation for the person who is involved. We have health education where we are supposed to teach our students good health habits of which drugs are not part.
Secondly, if the school and society accepts illegal drug use it is taken by many as open permission to engage in this activity and may influence others to try the so called recreational drugs.
Thirdly, the students involved in drug use frequently do not have a clear head and their education suffers along with their health. I believe that so called minor drug use for many leads to major drug use in many cases.
Fourthly, drug use for at least some presents a need for money. Theft and other illegal actives may occur.
Fifthly, the passage of money between student and student can lead to arguments and fights.
Sixthly, the school has an obligation to parents to see that their children are not exposed to drugs.
As far as the legality of drug testing is concerned I believe that they are legal. Students have rights, but they have no right to take or sell drugs on public property nor are their lockers private property. Lockers are subject to the rules of the school.
I know that many will be opposed to the views presented above but I offer them at least partially in response to your statement: ';please express your true feelings';.

So, if drug testing is a part of adult life, and we are trying to train up our teenagers to be outstanding adults one day, then yes, drug testing should be introduced to them in high school. Especially if it is used to determine if a student can participate in extra-curricular activities, be on the honor roll, lead in student government, and such.
Having passed thru all stages of your sample population, i can only give my combined opinion.
Drugs are such a big problem, action is needed.
Blanket testing of students and faculty, and any school visitor.
Make it often and unwarned.
Introduce severe consequences, and stick with them.
If you are worried about your civil liberties, you have the right to stay home. Also youll probably want testing after your child steps on a dirty discarded needle :)
Test now, improve the problem, review the policy for improvement.
As a slightly more opinionated student, I think that drug tests are necessary in schools. Who wants to see little Johnny doped out in music class? I feel that they are needed to make sure that kids aren't bringing drugs to class and ruining their bodies.
On the other hand, as a helper and a bit of an educator myself, I say that drug tests are a violation of privacy and the first amendment of the United States: we all have an entitlement to privacy with weapons, drugs or secret plans to blow up the Death Star.
Then again, drugs sometimes encourage cheating. Look at high school/college sports. They both are known for their accusations of steroid use. But some drugs in school encourage kids to be emotionless, unthinking and utterly unopinionated zombies who believe the typo in the history book. Ritalin, for example, if you act up, it's the whole 10 yards with the lobotomy and the Ritalin addiction. So it depends on your feelings on drug tests or what they're used for...
As a teacher, I think they should test the PARENTS for drugs before allowing them to procreate in the first place. As far as random drug screenings of students or teachers, it might not be such a bad idea. I don't personally know any teachers who take any non-prescription drugs, but then I work in a smaller school district.

I don't care. For after school activities like sports or whatever, sure. If they want to participate, they should be clean and law abiding. Not too different from regular rules like how they shouldn't ditch class or otherwise get in trouble.

As a retired teacher and as a former high school principal I feel that drug testing is a good idea.
First and foremost, taking drugs is an unhealthy and dangerous situation for the person who is involved. We have health education where we are supposed to teach our students good health habits of which drugs are not part.
Secondly, if the school and society accepts illegal drug use it is taken by many as open permission to engage in this activity and may influence others to try the so called recreational drugs.
Thirdly, the students involved in drug use frequently do not have a clear head and their education suffers along with their health. I believe that so called minor drug use for many leads to major drug use in many cases.
Fourthly, drug use for at least some presents a need for money. Theft and other illegal actives may occur.
Fifthly, the passage of money between student and student can lead to arguments and fights.
Sixthly, the school has an obligation to parents to see that their children are not exposed to drugs.
As far as the legality of drug testing is concerned I believe that they are legal. Students have rights, but they have no right to take or sell drugs on public property nor are their lockers private property. Lockers are subject to the rules of the school.
I know that many will be opposed to the views presented above but I offer them at least partially in response to your statement: ';please express your true feelings';.

As a business owner my employees are subject to random drug testing. And there are LOTS of jobs now that incorporate drug testing as part of employment. We know that pro-athletes and Olympians are also subject to drug testing. Many insurance companies require blood and/or saliva tests that can be used to detect illegal drug use. I had a parent object to her child's learning about the Declaration of Independence and the Fourth of July, and who refused to allow her child to be involved in any discussion of elections (this was last fall during the Presidential election).
It was hard for me to deal with, because of my teaching philosophy that I am preparing students to be competent citizens. In the end, though, I did what you did - I explained that I am bound by law to deliver the mandated curriculum. I also involved my principal at an early stage of the disagreement, just as a CYA. I did just as my principal told me to do; I figured they pay him the big bucks to sort out problems like these.
This past school year was the first time I have ever had a serious problem with this... I had a young man in my class and his parents were down my neck the whole school year about my class being too hard. He had always had good grades in math, and he had a steady B average in my class. I do push my kids to excell and sometimes my tests are not the easiest, but everything I teach is state mandated. I offered to help this child after class, line him up a tutor, or do anything I could to help him get the grade he wanted. That is my policy. You could just not please his parents though. I stood my ground on the way I taught and spent the whole year trying to explain to this to them. I am kind of glad he has moved on to Mrs. Thompsons 11th grade Algebra 2 class lol
well first off why is the parent upset about it? I don't think there's any really way to calm a parent down... all you can do is tell the parent learning one small thing opens doors to others regardless of whether or not we agree with it. Frank Herbert said, ';The beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand.'; or if you want to get all new age a quote from J.K. Rowling, ';His priority did not seem to be to teach them what he knew, but rather to impress upon them that nothing, not even... knowledge, was foolproof.';
also why not try easing the parent's mind by asking a higher authority why specifically the ';sensitive'; subject is even taught? ya know, tell the parent you would ask personally? (even though he should know!)
i found this ';The Amendments contained in the Bill of Rights make up a huge percentage of the values that this country was founded on. The Bill of Rights was, at the time, what set us apart from England, and for that matter, every other established country. It was a very radical move back then. ';

I would show then a copy of the state standards and tell them that if they want to change what is taught, then they need to go to the state legislature. But until then, they should leave you alone.
