My sister just got approved by out county for her foster license, just waiting on the state. Her ';boss'; told her it could be anywhere from 1 day to 1 year, so always be prepared.
How long does it take to get approved?
The classes take about 2 months if you haven't already taken them.
After going through the classes you have to get a background check, finger printed, and fill out a state application. Then you have to have a house inspection done by the company you go through or the city and state, you also have to have a fire inspection done. The fire inspection is done at your cost.
Now on the application that part depends on you, the pickier you are the longer it will take to get a child. I don't know about TX but in Ohio you have to be a foster to adopt, and you cannot choose a race. If you put down say that you will not take white children, you automatically are disqualified because it will deem you racist, and they will not put children into a racist home.

My sister and Brother-in-law met a couple who got their foster license through the county almost 7 months ago, and based on the type of children they are willing to take they have not yet gotten any children. This couple isn't looking to foster but adopt and have filled out for a specific type of child.
They will not take children over 4, who have add, adhd, no other learning disabilities, no handicaps what so ever, or no other behavior issues. So based on what they will take they will get passed over until they are a last resort. (what her boss has stated) even if a child were to come in meeting the couples standard.
All in all from classes to getting approved takes roughly 4 months. I don't know about TX but in OH after getting approved you get $300.00 up front for taking the classes and passing all the other stuff.After being approved for being a foster parent in tx how long does it take to get a child?
VERY FAST!!!!! I grew up in a foster home. I'm not a foster child my dad and step mom wanted to have a child, but my step mom couldn't so they did the foster adopt. We always had kids in our house! I remember we had a little 2 yr old a week later and my parents adopted her after 6 months. And we had k8ids in and out of the house all the time.
In florida It takes about a year to be approved, it is a very thorough process, once you are licensed you will start receiving calls for placement almost immediately
If your open to most ages or genders then you could have a baby within days of being certified!
